Superman eats edamame and so does Luc!

I've been making dinner recipes from this new cookbook I got called "The 12 Best Foods".
It has great recipes made with some of the 12 best foods out there -- eg. blueberries, spinach, soybeans, oatmeal, tomatoes, etc...
So far the recipes have all tasted great and been relatively easy to prepare. Last night was pasta with spinach, edamame, olive oil and garlic.
Before I gave Luc too long to stare at his plate I started talking about how much superheroes love edamame. It is almost all protien so they have to eat lots of it so that they can keep their big muscles. Lucas asked if Superman loves edamame and I said, yes, he eats it at least twice a day. Lucas happily ate his dinner and proclaimed that he loves edamame too!

Amanda was a harder sell, since she doesn't exactly look up to Superman, yet. She did allow Phil to feed her a few bites with the promise of ice cream after dinner.

    Amanda and the Purple Crayon.

You can take a look in the photos section and see some of young Amanda's fabulous artwork. She is so talented and I think I might start looking around for art schools for her to attend. The only problem is that her canvas just happened to be the walls all around the house. It probably only took her a few minutes while I was brushing my teeth or switching the laundry. I found the first scribblings in the hallway and said "damn, she got loose with a crayon." No biggie, I grabbed my "magic eraser" and used some elbow grease to make the markings go away. I headed into the living room where there was more. Then next to my computer cabinet a whole wall nearly filled. Next to the tv were some more drawings. She hit 5 or 6 walls and my magic eraser died before I could get to 3 of them. I'll have to head to the store for more.
Lucas never did write on the walls, but I was watched him a lot more than I do Amanda. I'm going to have to hide the crayons and only bring them out when I'm right there.

Tomorrow is the last day of summer preschool and also the last time Lucas and Abby will be in the same school until high school. That is amazing. They play so well together and Lucas feels really comfortable having her at school with him. I hope he can make some other good buds at school. I know Abby will have a great time in Kindergarten.

Beware, this story makes references to poop. Stop reading if you are squemish.

Well, Amanda's potty training has been going alright. We just try to put her on regularly and if she does something, then we'll put her in panties for an hour or so. On Saturday morning she peed in the potty (yeah!) and we put her in panties. Then she started saying "poop" so I ran with her to the potty and we sat and sat, but nothing. I took her off the potty and before I could get a diaper on her, she pooped on the floor!

No biggie. Yesterday we were quite busy and I think she may have gone pee in the potty once.
Today she has peed twice in the potty, pooped once in the potty, peed once on the floor (damn) and used one diaper. Not bad! Maybe in another month or so we can venture out without a diaper on, we shall see....

    Simple question....

The other night while we were having dinner Lucas looked at me and asked, "Mom, are dinosaurs mean?"
I said something like dinosaurs aren't around any more -- I thought he was scared or something that dinosaurs might try to invade our house.
He asked why they aren't around and I tried to explain that they lived such a long time ago, before there were even people on the Earth, and no one knows exactly why they went away, but we do have their bones so we know what they looked like.
He pondered my explanation and then asked, "Mom, are dinosaurs mean?"
I guess he just wanted a simple answer to his simple question.

Things around the old homestead are going OK. Yesterday was particularly bad with Miss Amanda. She is going through the terrible twos and I mean TERRIBLE. It's terrible for me and terrible for Lucas because he ends up getting caught by my short temper after I've listened to Amanda scream for a few minutes.
Gotta go... I hear someone stirring from naptime.

    "Pee'in in the Great Outdoors!"

We went for what turned out to be quite a long hike in Wildwood this morning. We packed a lunch and set out to hit the waterfall. We decided to take a different trail and although it was very cool, it was much longer than we originally thought. The two kiddos ended up catching a lift with Phil and I for a good part of the trip.
Shortly after lunch Lucas informed us that he had to go potty. We didn't see any restrooms around so Phil and Lucas found a nice bush and the rest is history....
