    So what would you do...?
This afternoon I had to go return all the tables and chairs from Phil's party. I promised the kids we'd stop and get ice cream on the way home. We were having a nice time but after the kids were done, Amanda tried to lie down on the floor of the ice cream place. I picked her up and told her "no". Lucas then said that he was going to lick the floor. I told him no way and that it was full of germs. I turned my back to throw something away and he was on the ground licking away! I was so mad and grossed out that I picked him up and told him he now lost his robot toy for 2 days.
Of course he then proceeded to scream for about 10 minutes.
Come on... the boy is 3.5 and I've been telling him for the last 7 months or so not to lick things just because Amanda does. Amanda licks everything and we reprimand her but Lucas sees it as her getting attention and he wants some too. It was one of the few times that I really just wanted to spank him because I don't know what else will get it through his thick toddler head that he can't go around licking things and that when I say "no" to something he better not ignore me. I'm starting to think I'm going to lose it with him because he NEVER listens to me anymore. He ignores about 90% of what I say and the other 10% of the time he screams about whatever he has to do or can't do. I'm at my wits end. Time outs DO NOT work and neither does sending him to his room. I've tried taking some toys away and initially it gets a reaction but he seems to forget about the toys soon enough.
Anyway, I just had to vent because I really am about ready to send him to military preschool if they have it.

Luc did really well in his swim lessons today. He jumped off the side to his teacher 3 times and was very proud of being "brave"

Pee on the potty! Yes, Amanda went pee-pee on the potty this evening with Phil. We have been talking a lot about it lately and she tells me when she is either about to do something or just has. I think we're going to perhaps try and putting her on the potty regularly and see what happens. I've been reading a lot about potty training and before the age of disposable diapers, tots were normally trained between 18 months and 2 years. Disposable diapers just make it really difficult for kids to know when they have gone and get the connection.
We'll see, it would be really nice to have her out of diapers at age 2 -- think of how many diapers we would be saving from the landfill! I just want to do my part to be green:)

Lucas had his first swim lesson through the parks and rec today and he did really well. It is much different than his lessons last year. They have them in the shallow kiddie pool and there are other kids in the class. There isn't any forced dunkage, although it is pushed a bit. He seemed to enjoy it and the classes are everyday so I think that will help.
Tomorrow school starts up again and with work, school, swimming, gymnastics and Amanda's baby class that starts Wednesday afternoon, we'll be very busy for the next few weeks.

My boy child's hair grows much too fast. We got it cut fairly short back on March 29. Now, not 3.5 months later, he was sporting a mop head. It was really getting in his eyes and everyone around felt the need to comment on it. So, with the promise of ice-cream after, Luc agreed to head over to Fantastic Sams. Last visit he did fairly well and there was no screaming. This time was absolutelyh horrible. The woman just kept asking what was wrong and why was he so terrified. He was screaming and drooling the whole time. I covered his eyes for him and tried to calm him down but nothing worked. It was terrible!!! He doesn't act any better if I do it at home, so I might as well take him somewhere so at least his hair will look decent. It does look cute, but I'm sure he will become a mophead again before I take him. I wonder what he'll be like when he gets his hair cut at age 15?

Both the kids were great today an work was pretty slow, so that was nice. We played indoors a lot because it was so hot, but we did take a nice stroll down to the park before lunch. Amanda is really talking a lot now and she is happy to play around with Lucas. They have a good time together when there are no toys involved.

I got my haircut today and as soon as Lucas saw me, he said "I don't like your new hair." He said that I didn't look like mommy. This morning he had requested that I not cut my hair at all. Since he was a tiny baby he has always loved my hair. He used to just grab my hair and feel it as he was going to sleep and he still likes to grab my ponytail before he goes to sleep at night. It is very cut. My hair is now above my shoulders so it isn't as easy for him to grab and feel and I'm sure that is why he doesn't like it so much. I told him it will grow back and that seemed to make him happy.

Amanda didn't seem to care one way or the other about my new style. Right now Amanda is only interested in hearing me sing the "Bob Song" all day long. This is the Veggie Tales theme song and she constantly says "Bob, Bob, be Bob" when she wants me to sing. I usually oblige if we are not around any other grownups. She loves to dance when I sing or put the song on the computer-- anything to make my little pumpkin happy! She is recognizing more and more letters now -- A, S, X, Y and O. I think Luc was a bit further along with the alphabet at this age, but I read to him lots more than she gets. I spent lots of time doing the alphabet and numbers with him -- poor Amanda gets little of that. She gets some stories at bedtime and if she wakes up from her nap before Luc we build towers with her alphabet blocks. I wonder if firstborns are generally more intelligent than their later born siblings just because of the amount of time a parent can spend with them.

These past two weeks have been challenging trying to get work done while preschool is on break. I have taken a couple of days off because I just get crazy. Next week school starts up again and things should be much easier for us all. The house is also still not nearly in order. The master bedroom is still not completely unpacked and I only have a few walls painted in the living room. We haven't even started painting Luc's room. A wrist injury put me off from my evening painting sessions, but I think I'm almost healed so I'll try to start some more this weekend. I hope to have everything finished soon! We still have some furniture to buy, but that will be put on hold because of some dental work I need ! yuk!. We'll do without living room furniture for the time being but the kids are fine with that because it gives them more room to scatter their toys. That stresses me out but I am really trying to be better about worrying so much about the mess. I try to take deep breaths and close my eyes a lot:)
I figure if my kitchen and bathrooms are clean and the laundry isn't piled too high then I'm doing OK.

Phil installed our new chandelier today! I'm so proud of him! What a great hubby I have.

Just a quick one because I have loads of work....
We had a nice 4th of July with the kids. We headed out to hte beach early in the day and stayed for a couple of hours. It was probably our best trip to the beach yet -- everyone had fun!
The kids took a really long nap and then we headed over to Tom and KErri's for some grub and socializing. Luc go to go in the kiddie pool and Amanda tried to ignore everyone who talked to her:)
We headed home around 7:30 and then set up chairs and snacks on the roof so we could watch the fireworks. The show was really nice from the roof -- that's one good thing about a flat roof.
Kids went to bed at about 9:45 and Phil and I folllowed shortly after. It was a nice, mellow 4th.
