    Biting!!!
A couple of times recently Amanda has "nipped" me towards the end of a nursing session. It never really hurt, just startled me. Well, today she drew blood and let me tell you, it hurt! She has bitten a few times today and I'm not sure what to do about it. I have let out a few shrieks and then gently told her "no" and put her down for a few minutes. I really hope this curbs the behavior because I'm totally freaked out to nurse her knowing that Jaws may strike at any time!!!

On another note, I gave Lucas a haircut at home today and he did relatively well -- much better than the last time I tried. I did a decent job, but it's not as short as I would like. I can say, though, that it is much less traumatic than when I take him into the hair salon.
He is now eating his brownie that I bribed him with if he was a "big boy" during the haircut:)

I just have to note two cute things Lucas has said recently.
Last week I was sitting and having lunch with him and he leaned toward me and said, "Mommy, are you my best friend?" I was moved to tears. Someday I'm sure I will be removed from the "friend" category, but I'll always remember being Lucas' first "best friend".

This morning I was trying to get Lucas dressed for school and he was fooling around. He likes to try and get away while we put on his socks so that we have to tackle him -- it is all a fun game. Well, this morning I just wasn't really in the mood and Amanda was whining a bit so I told Luc, "please let's just put on your socks and stop playing around." His response... "why can't I have any fun?"
    I just cracked up.

What a change from last weekend! We enjoyed a pretty quiet weekend around the Crouse Haus. Lucas is still perfect on the potty and doesn't even need a diaper at night!!! He is enjoying coloring more and more and we are starting to work on his lowercase letters -- he has recognized his uppercase for some time. He also recognizes numbers 1-9 and sometimes he seems to know that 3 is greater than 2, but I don't think he yet gets the concept of other numbers.

Amanda is growing fast. She is not nursing nearly as much as she was (maybe 4 or 5 times a day) and eats solids three times a day with maybe a small piece of fruit in the afternoon or evening. I think I'll have her try some yogurt today. I haven't started her on any finger foods yet, though, because she isn't anywhere near crawling. She tolerates being on her tummy but 50% of the time can't roll over. She likes to pull up to standing -- maybe she'll walk before she crawls!
It's hard not to try and compare her to what Lucas was doing when he was her age. But when Luc was her age we were only caring for him so I think we spent a lot more time on things with him. By this age he was days away from crawling, he was clapping his hands and starting finger foods. She is spitting up much less and is a much better sleeper than he was at this age. She still wakes up occasionally but it is usually before Phil and I have retired for the night.

We saw Grandpa McDonald on Sunday evening and that was nice. We don't get together that much but I know the kids like seeing Grandpa.

We are still waiting for Lucas' new bed to be delivered. Right now he is on a twin mattress on the ground which is fine with him. But for asthetic purposes I will be happy when we get the bed:)

I think we are actually glad that this weekend is coming to an end.
Friday afternoon Lucas started to come down with some sort of stomach bug. At first we attributed it to something he ate and so we stuck with our plans to head down to OC. On Saturday Luc, Amanda, the Grandparents and Phil went to Irvine park while I attended Denise's baby shower. They seemed to have a nice time but when I got back it was apparent that something was up with Luc. Phil and I went to the store to get some babyfood and when we got back Ray and Jeme told us Luc had been sick twice. He was sick a couple of more times on Saturday but seemed to perk up by later that evening. On Sunday, however he was still complaining of a stomach ache so we cut our trip short and headed home. Sunday was a bit long because I had been up since 4:30 with Amanda.
I think the kids must have some sort of esp and they could sense that Phil and I were trying to get a good sleep last night so they interrupted us. Phil and I were so totally exhausted on Sunday evening that we went to bed at 8:45 p.m. We went right to sleep but at about 10:00 Lucas woke up crying and Phil went in to soothe him back to sleep. Next it was my turn when Amanda woke up at 11:00 and demanded to be fed. We were given a slight repreive and then were once again summoned at 4 a.m. when Lucas again needed some attention (his stomach was still bothering him). Then we were up for the day at 6:30 when Amanda woke up.
That will show us not to ever expect to get a good sleep no matter what time we hit the hay.

Today Lucas was doing better so we went over to the Farm and had a nice picnic. We did a few things around the house and just tried to keep everyone happy and we were relatively successful.

Phil is in singing to Lucas right now and I think we are once again going to try for an early night. We're both hoping that next weekend brings some more pleasant family time.
