Lucas didn't nap yesterday so he was pretty tired around 7 p.m. We put a video on for him at about 7:30 and then Phil and I started to clean up the kitchen. We were talking to Luc as we did dishes and didn't find his non-response strange since he can become quite engrossed in his shows. Phil walked over to the couch, picked Lucas up and brought him to me. I was amazed to see that he was sound asleep at 7:45! He barely even stirred as we put on his pj's. I am convinced that he'll need to have his afternoon naps for some time, but I can't always convince him.

Great weekend!
We had a really nice weekend with the kids. It was so hot here in Moorpark so we decided to head down to the beach early on Saturday. We went to Paradise Cove at about 9:30 and it was beautiful. Lucas had fun playing in the water and we had a nice walk along the beach. Both kids were in rare form -- they were both so happy and well behaved. We had lunch at the restaurant there and then headed home.
After Phil and I put the kids to bed we both remarked on what a joy it is to be a parent on days like that. Sometimes you get so caught up in the day to day junk and the moaning and tantrums that you don't get much time to enjoy the kids. But exceptional days, like Saturday, make it all worthwhile.
Yesterday we washed the cars and just got some things done around the house. It was tough on the kids having to stay inside for much of the afternoon to avoid the heat.
Lucas is still accident-free and I think we've got the potty thing nailed!!!! How nice to just have one in diapers.
Amanda is playing more and more and showing her personality. She gets quite upset if someone takes a toy away from her or if she isn't getting enough attention. She thinks her brother is the greatest and has gone back to her good sleeping patterns.Comments:Add a comment:

Potty training success!!!!!
Lucas is ready to leave his diapers behind. The only time we put them on is at night and even then he doesn't really need them (it's just a precaution). He has had a couple of accidents over the past week or so, but only when I've been too busy and didn't insist that he try to use the restroom. At school he has been accident-free this week. He is happy, Phil is happy and I am happy. I think Luc is really proud of himself. He even seems to be speaking a bit better since he started using the potty -- maybe it's just my imagination.
Amanda is another story. She started getting us up at night for the past week or so. We think she might be teething or is going through separation anxiety at night. Anyway, Phil and were starting to get really tired but last night she decided to give us a break and she didn't get up once.
I hope tonight is a repeat.
Amanda is now eating papayas, avocados, acorn squash with a bit of brown sugar. That is what we've added to her staples of bananas, apples, carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, cereal, pears, plums, nectarines, and blueberries.
She is no where near crawling (doesn't even tolerate being on her tummy) but she does like to stand up while holding onto something. She won't be trying finger foods anytime soon since the rule of thumb is that they should be able to crawl. Oh well. She's our last so we are really trying to enjoy her and not stress about what she isn't doing.

The past few days have been great -- great for me that is.
It makes such a difference when I get out of the house with the kids and actually meet and talk with other people. On Monday we met a really nice woman at the park. She has a boy about Luc's age and they had a great time playing together and I enjoyed speaking with this woman.
On Wednesday we met up with Kerri, Abby and Ben at a local park and the kids played for close to two hours. It is more fun for Luc when one of his cousins is around to play with.
Yesterday was more cousin fun at the farm. Lucas rode a pony for the first time (I'll have pics up soon) and he ran and ran.
Amanda is just enjoying seeing all the new things around her. She is sitting up really well and enjoys standing when I hold onto her hands.
Things have gotten a lot easier with going places. I don't need to bring the whole house just to go down to the park -- a few diapers and some bottled water and a snack is all we really need.
Today Mom was back from Maryland so we headed out to Agoura for a few hours. It is always good to visit with her -- mom has the best ear and will listen to all of my complaining (poor Mom:( ) I always feel better after a visit "home".Comments:Add a comment:

I just have to write down Lucas' new potty-training trick. Yesterday he didn't have a wet diaper all day -- we made it into the little potty cup each time.
But the funny part is how Luc did it. He told me each time he had to use the potty and I took him into the bathroom. He would then remove the little cup from the potty chair and take that into the
hallway. A minute later he would bring it back to me full.
I tried to get him to stay in the bathroom and hold the cup but he prefered the hallway. Gosh, they are strange!
Anyway, I think I'll let him do this for about a week or so until he has it down and then restrict him to the bathroom. It was a good feeling for him to have used the potty so many times yesterday.Comments:Add a comment:

Ahhhh... the end of another "relaxing" weekend.
I enjoyed my time with Phil and the kids, but I am pretty wiped out because Luc and Amanda can go, go, go.
We had a nice surprise Friday evening with Paul and Maria coming by for a visit. It is always so great to catch up with those guys and just have some adult conversations.
Phil and I often find that at the end of a long day of work and the kids, we just sit and stare at each other and have to struggle a bit to engage in meaningful conversation. Another one or two adult brains is usually enough to shake us out of our funk.
Lucas had a bit of a cold this weekend, but overall he was full of energy. Apparently, he is also quite full of gas:) I asked him yesterday if he had a dirty diaper and he said, "no, I just have gas. I sound like a garbage truck."
I don't know where he came up with that one, but I thought it was pretty funny.
Yesterday we visited with Paul and Maria in the a.m. and then ran around doing errands and hit the park in the afternoon. Today we went to the zoo at Moorpark College and soaked up some rays out by the pool in the backyard (by pool, I mean inflatable).
Amanda is still doing well and sleeping and eating great. She still clings to me whenever she is awake, but that is a small price to pay for a good night sleep.
