Recovery efforts are in progress here at the Crouse Haus. Recovery from illness as well as from a Christmas that brought more than enough toys to fill the house.
I think my antibiotics have finally kicked in. I feel the best I have felt in two weeks! My mom came over on Christmas Eve to take me to urgent care. I guess she was sick of hearing me cough and wheeze into the phone. I got some meds but still was unable to make it to Christmas at Grandma Agoura's house:( Phil took the kids as well as Grandma and Grandpa C. and Uncle K.K. They returned with more gifts and some chocolate cookies!
Christmas morning was fun for Lucas and Amanda. They both fwere handsomely rewarded for their good behavior in 2005. The big gifts of the year were a Big Wheel (old school) for Lucas and a radio flyer ride on toy for Amanda. Hopefully I'll be well enough soon to take them out for a real adventure on their new modes of transportation.
I will try to get some pics up soon. I don't have too many, as I wasn't on the ball.

No Christmas cheer here:(
What a bummer that the flu decided to invade our peaceful little house. First Luc came down with croup last week and then last Thursday I was attacked by a nasty little virus. I am still barely able to do more than read to the kids. I've lost a whole week of the Christmas season and now last minute gifts probably won't be bought and I don't even know when I'll wrap everything we do have. And let's not even talk about the state of our house.
I am feeling extremely Grinchy right now. Amanda also has an ear infection and sore throat so she is on antibiotics, too. And poor Phil, who is doing his best to take care of everyone, is struggling with his own cold.
BAH HUMBUG!Comments:Add a comment:

Croup at the Crouse Haus!
Luc came down with a bad cough yesterday so I took him to the doctor today. He has croup and an ear infection. We are calling off his birthday party this Saturday because we don't want to risk infecting any other children right before Christmas.
I feel so sorry for the little guy. Not only is he feeling like crap, but now he doesn't get a party.
We obviously can't do it next weekend, so we'll just bring a little cake to Grandma's house on Christmas.
I just pray that Amanda doesn't get sick... but the doctor said it is highly likely she will:(

Amanda has been taking one step solo here and there for a couple of weeks now. But last night she took 3 or 4 steps over and over again. She is standing a lot more often and she will walk from a piece of furniture over to me if I'm about 4 or 5 steps away. She'll walk between Phil and myself. Lucas has fun cheering her on.
She also cut another tooth on the bottom... so that makes three now. I think Lucas had six by this point.
Tomorrow Miss Amanda will be 11 months old and I'm sure by age one she'll be walking all over the place.
Lucas is quickly learning that his toys are no longer safe from the lunatic baby.Comments:Add a comment:

No real news to report today. I am often sitting and nursing Amanda in the evening and I think of a bunch of things I need to write down, but by the time I actually sit in front of the computer they are gone. Sleep deprivation is very hard on the memory.
Amanda has been sleeping pretty poorly lately. She was up 4 times last night and Phil and I are dragging these days. Lucas on the other hand, sleeps great. He still takes about an hour or 1.5 hour nap and goes down around 8:15 - 6:30. He is occasionally awakened by his screaming sister and PHil has to go in and calm him down.
Lucas just amazes me by how bright he is. He is getting better with recognizing what words start with what letter. We were on the way to Phil's work last week and he asked, "Mommy, what letter does work start with?" I said, "What letter does w-w-work start with?"
He said, "W!"
He can count to 20 on most days and knows his right and left hands and feet. He can get his velcro shoes on by himself and use the potty alone when he wants to. We are really trying to work on tracing his letters now. They do this at school and Luc has a little difficulty with it so we are trying to do some at home.
Well, this note is cut short because Amanda is waking up from her nap. Hopefully I can continue later if I remember:)Comments:Add a comment:

When I think about the events of yesterday, a song from "Annie" comes to mind. It's the one she and Daddy Warbucks sing toward the end of the film....
"Yesterday was plain awful. You can say that again. Yesterday was plain awful...."
When I woke up Sunday I was excited because we were going to get our Christmas tree. Last year was awesome and Lucas had so much fun running around the tree lot and helping us pick out a tree.
We started out yesterday with a trip to the park. Luc and Amanda were both having a great time. I was running around with Luc and we headed to the teeter-totter. It is a strange round one where about 4 kids can sit. Luc took one end and me the other. He was having so much fun and was laughing so hard that he leant back. He must have gotten dizzy because he rolled over and smacked his face on the teeter-totter. I immediately picked him up to inspect for damage. No lip bleeding and no cut on his face. But when he opened his mouth I saw blood. The blood was coming from his upper gums which were quickly swelling. Now, one of my biggest fears at the park is that Luc will fall on the playground and knock out his front teeth.
I was pretty upset, and so was he. We hurried home to get him some ice and he finally calmed down. His front tooth doesn't seem to be very loose and the swelling in his gums has gone down quite a bit. But man... I realized how much it sucks when your kids get hurt. The thought of them becoming disfigured (whether a lost tooth or a scar of some sort) is just horrible. Right now we are skipping any hard foods like apples or carrots and I think he'll be OK.
So, we went to the christmas tree lot in the evening and that was also sort of a disaster. Luc was out of sorts and it was cold and windy. We were all on edge and we quickly picked a tree and took both moaning kids home. We finally had some redemption after Amanda went to bed.
We put on some christmas music, I had a glass of wine and Lucas had fun helping us trim the tree.
Once I got over the fact that my idea of having the perfect christmas tree shopping day was not really so important, I was able to enjoy our time together.
So, the end of the song from Annie goes....
"But that's not now, that's then!"
