Uhoh! Luc can say "no".
It started the other night when he was fooling around with the oven. We put some covers on the stove knobs because he likes to play with those. Luc walked over to the oven and tried to turn the knobs. I then removed his hands and, with a firm voice, said, "no". Over and over we played the game. Finally, luc repeated the word to me.
"No," he said in his little boy voice.
It was so cute. I know it's only a matter of time before he starts saying it when Phil or I tell him to do something (or stop doing something).

We had a great weekend hangin with our little guy.
On Saturday we took Luc to the Gardens of the World here in Thousand Oaks. It was a little chilly outside, but Luc loved running around trying to touch all the plants. He really seemed to like all the fountains and waterfalls.
On Sunday we took Luc out to the Commons in Calabasas. We got some new books at Barnes & Noble (Luc got a cool new lift-the-flap book) and had a nice lunch.
We went to the park and then just fooled around in our own backyard. It was nice to get outside with him. Luc loves to run around and would stay outside all day if we let him.
We're still having a little bit of trouble with Luc's eating habits. He now has most of his meals at his little table and chair set. He is really trying to feed himself, but ends up messy and frustrated at the end of the meal. He will pick it up soon, I just hope it is really soon.
He is getting better about trying new foods. We got him to try turkey dogs and a toddler cereal bar (it has extra iron). I made muffins the other day and he would only poke at them and throw the pieces on the floor. He loves goldfish!
Let's see, here's a list of the words Luc is saying now:
cheese -- pronounced "chee"
shower -- pronounced "wower"
flower -- prounounced "wower"
yuck -- pronounced "yuck"
dada -- pronounced "dada"
And sometimes I think he says "lie" when pointing to a light -- I can't tell for sure.

Lucas is just a bundle of energy. For the past two mornings, he decided that he needed to wake up at about 6 a.m. By 8 a.m. (when we have to leave for daycare) he was tired and cranky. How can I convince him to go back to sleeping until 7:30 a.m.?
He still gets up every morning at about 5 a.m. for a bottle, and up until Monday, he was was going right back down until 7:30.
Other than that, Luc is doing great. He is running all over the place. He now has 10 teeth, but still doesn't like to use them too much:) He is a picky eater for Phil and I, but not so picky for anyone else. He knows that I'll offer him a host of different items trying to find the one he will eat.
This morning, for instance, I made him a bowl of oatmeal with some banana and milk. He took two bites and then wouldn't eat any more. I thought that perhaps he wasn't hungry yet. Thirty minutes later, I gave him a mini waffle to try -- took a couple licks and threw it on the ground. A little bit later I made a pancake, which Luc tried to feed to me. I finally got him to eat a piece of American cheese for breakfast.
Toddlers seem to have a six sense that parents totally stress out about the child's eating habits. They can sense that the mom wants them to eat a particular item. They then gauge their hunger against the desire to do the opposite of what the parent wants. Often times, hunger is not greater than the desire for independence. Anyway, that's what I think.
I just have to mention that Luc is starting to get the hang of feeding himself. Don't get me wrong, he is still a mess by the end of dinner, but he actually gets the spoon in his mouth 2 out of 3 times. Go Luc!!!!Comments:Add a comment:

Luc had a great time at the Long Beach Aquarium on Sunday. We went to celebrate Caroline's 2nd birthday. What a great idea -- it really was all about the kids.
Luc got to touch a bat-ray and he thought it was so fun to put his hands in the water.
I think is favorite part of the day was chasing pigeons. I only wish I brought the video camera with me. I was solo on the trip (Phil had a much deserved day to himself) so I tend to forget things like pictures and video until it's too late.
There are a few new pics up on the site.Comments:Add a comment:

Well, we had a nice relaxing weekend -- we didn't do much besides laundry.
We just enjoyed playing with Luc and recouperating from the long holiday season.
We met Grandma M. and Great Aunt D for lunch on Saturday. Aunt D. headed back to Oregon on Sunday, so it was our last chance to hang out. Lucas was great in the restaurant and had his first restaurant meal. It was just mac n cheese, but it was the first time we ordered food for him.
I have to say that I now understand why all parents think they have the smartest kids. I used to think it so corny that people got all excited when their children acquired some new skill... like no other child in the history of the world had ever done something so great.
Now I am so excited to watch Luc learn. The first year was so slow... the first six months are basically spent laying on the ground, eating and sleeping. Then they start to crawl and the next few months are spent with that.
After Luc's first birthday, however, his learning started to speed up. He is suddenly pointing at everything wanting to know names. He can say a few words... and is imitating us like crazy.
He loves to feed mama with the spoon and find our eyes, nose and mouth.
I can only imagine what the next year will bring. I can't wait.
