The days are flying by....
Lucas is reading better and better every day. He'll even occasionally read to his sister, although I really have to beg him to do this. These days they are just not getting along at all.
Luc is getting ready for T-ball to start -- first practice is tomorrow. He's improved a lot since last year.
Amanda is writing her letters much better these days, although we sometimes still get stuck on what sounds each letter makes. She's counting pretty high now, tool. The Irish dance lessons were a bit of a flop. She is so darn shy right now, she didn't want me to leave her at the class, but the teacher doesn't allow parents to stay and watch.Comments:Add a comment:

Sleepover with the cousins is going well. It is
11 p.m. and all four kids are peacefully sleeping.
I am looking forward to Monday when everything goes back to normal... kids in school and full work schedule.Comments:mom: Wow, brings back memories of looking forward to Christmas vacation to be over-the first day they go back to school you take a deep breath and suddenly your mind is clear AGAIN. 2nd tooth is gone. Lucas lost his second tooth over the long weekend. He is now missing two bottoms, which makes eating apples (his fav) tough. But, he is about $2.50 richer from those two teeth.
Kindergarten is going really well. He loves his teacher and has made a few buddies in class. All of the kids seem really sweet. They've jumped right into the learning thing:) They do quite a few worksheets and projects every day. I don't know where to hang all the stuff!
Amanda started back to preschool this week and she is slowly getting back in the groove of things. She still has a hard time saying goodbye, but it seems to be getting a bit easier every day.Comments:Add a comment:

Just wanted to jot some things that Luc is doing lately.
We finished up the first season of t-ball. The beginning was a bit of a struggle, but by the end of the season, Luc was really getting on with the other boys and his skills were improving.
He can now tie his own shoes. I have to remember to give him extra time in the morning to do so so that I don't become impatient with him. I know I didn't tie my shoes before I went to kindergarten. He is writing and reading really well now, but he is extremely bored by the early reading books. Someone needs to write some superhero books for very early readers. He is doing well, so he has a goal to be able to read a superhero book by the end of summer.
Tomorrow is Luc's last day of preschool. It will be hard for me, but he is really ready to move on. He'll start summer camp in about a 10 days and then it's off to kindergarten. He cannot wait. I love that. I remember totally loving school at that age. I hope that attitude stays with him for a long time.Comments:Add a comment:

My babies are growing!
We headed out to the doc today to get their 5 year and 3 year checkups. Both kids are still at the upper end of the growth charts.
Lucas --
height: 45 inches (89%)
weight: 44.5 pounds (70%)
Amanda --
height: 39.5 inches (95%)
weight: 38.5 pounds (96%)
They did well considering their fingers were pricked to obtain blood for a cholesterol test and they each had a dose of vaccines. Yuck!
We made up for all the pain by going to see Alvin and the Chipmunks. The kids totally loved it and I didn't hate it.
I haven't written here in so long... I guess after the long days of work and the kids I didn't feel much like reliving things.
The kids are doing great, though.
Lucas had an awesome 5th birthday party at Jolly Jumps and I must say that 5 is a magical age. It's like overnight he's become a great big brother and a good little helper for me. He still loves to terrorize his little sister a bit and he has problems listening, but overall he is maturing so quickly. His reading is taking off. He is starting to read some words even when I'm not around and he likes to put our letter magnets together to spell words. Our next task is to do flash cards with some phonics rules.
Amanda is a bit fiery lately. She is becoming more and more stubborn. She doesn't seem to love school all that much, but she loves being at home reading books and painting. She is happy if we don't have to go anywhere or do anything special.
She is funny, though, and loves to make us laugh. My favorite thing is to look in her eyes and smile and she'll crack up. It's like our own secret code. We'll be sitting next to each other reading a book and I'll look at her and give her a goofy grin and she smiles a big smile and crinkles her eyes up in the cutest way.
Both kids love Ruby, but I think they love her too much. Poor dog. She is constantly being squeezed by the two preschoolers.

Two months since I've posted here.
Kids are doing really well and I'm just busy, busy, busy. Watching Ben and Abby three days a week is going well. Kerri has my kiddos the other two days and I think the change of scenary does them well. Lucas is really developing quite the sense of humor lately. He "gets" jokes now and even tries to make up his own. Perhaps I'll type an example when I'm not feeling so tired. My back went out early last week and I've been on the mend since. Phil, wonderful husband that he is, has really picked up my slack, but there is still so much to be done around here. Lots of spring cleaning had been planned and so far I haven't accomplished much. I'm trying not to beat myself up too much because when one of the kids comes to me and looks asks for me to play, how can I say no? When I do, I question my decision and wonder if they will remember that mommy decided to clean the bathroom instead of play rescue heroes.

Wow, can't believe the babies are getting so big!
We went for the annual checkup on the 17th. I thought it would be a good idea to get both of them checked at the same time -- turned out not to be the wisest idea, since Dr. Rubin was trying to get details and give me info on two kids as they tried desparately to get our attention by destroying the office. No, it wasn't that bad, but a room smaller than Lucas' with lots of gadgets prooved to be too much for them and I left feeling like I had more questions for the doctor.
Anyway, here are the stats:
Lucas: 42 inches tall and about 38 pounds.
Amanda: 35.5 inches tall and about 31.5 pounds
They are both in the upper part of the height chart (Amanda at 90% and Luc at 75%). Amanda tips the scales in the 90% for weight and Luc comes in at 45% for weight.
I asked doc if I should be concerned about Amanda's weight at all and she said no. Just don't offer her snacks other than at usual snack time and make sure we serve healthy meals, which I really try to do. Fast food probably sneaks in about once a week, a heck of a lot more than I had as a kid, but I was still a chunky little preschooler.
Both kids have recovered from a short bout with a stomach bacteria -- yuck. But you know, kids are really easy with the stomach flu compared to adults. They really seem to just do their thing and then occasionally barf. Lucas and I got to calling each other "barf bag" because I told him how I used to spit up quite a bit as a baby. So, after he had a stomach eruption and we got him settled back in bed, he said, "goodnight, barf bag." I couldn't help myself but think it was so cute. I said "good night barf bag" to him. I know it isn't something that would go over in public, but he didn't mean any malice and we bonded over barf.
Sorry if I grossed you out!

Another Christmas gone and my baby boy is now 4! It's so hard to believe that 4 years have gone by in the blink of an eye. Lucas enjoyed his second birthday celebration. We headed over to chuck e cheese with Grandma and Grandpa C., Uncle Kev, Aunt Molly and Aunt Matt (yes, that's what the kids call him). I really dislike that place and the food is pretty gross, but Lucas had so much fun playing all the games and redeeming his tickets for a junky little water pistol.
Christmas was 2 days later and I think Santa was tired and he decided to drop off presents for a few households at our place.
Lucas' two biggies were the hyperjet from Santa and a drum set from the Grandparents. He loves both. Amanda is having fun creating art with her easel and she loves her new leappad bus.
Christmas day at Grandma Agoura's was a bit too much for the kids. By then they hadn't had a good night's sleep in a few days and I think they were overwhelmed by all the gifts. Lucas lost it a bit, and I must admit that I did too. I was tired from planning his party and then getting last minute gifts wrapped. I always have high expectations of a "perfect" Christmas and of course I am let down. I am glad the kids had fun but I'm glad the holidays are over. I feel a great weight lifted off my shoulders.
Lucas is on vacation now and it is a good thing that my work is a bit slow right now. I have monthly billing to take care of this weekend but other than that I think we'll lay low around the Crouse Haus for New Year's.
Only 2.5 weeks left to plan a special day for Amanda's 2nd birthday!Comments:Add a comment:

The neighbors stole my nice weather!!!
So, yesterday was Lucas' birthday party (many of you were there) and of course, it rained. I was really counting on good weather because we had 16 kids and what can you do with 16 kids ages rangine 18 months to 8? A bouncey castle! But of course is was raining so we were all stuck indoors. The kids had a good time (everyone says) but I was feeling a bit claustrophobic and a bit like Lucas missed out on the nice party I had planned -- not the mention the complete waste of $130 because the bounce house place doesn't give refunds.
Today we were invited to our neighbor's 3rd birthday party (she came to Luc's yesterday). Woke up today to a beautiful, sunny day. Phil took the kids over to the party and of course the whole time all the kids were outside, running around and having a great time. Oh, and they were all in the bouncey castle!
Anyway, Lucas and Amanda had a really nice time at both parties. But we are paying the price now for letting Lucas indulge in some foods that have been off limits lately. What a difference in his attitude and behavior after just two days. Tomorrow it's back to being more vigilant about what he eats and I'm really going to try to be tough over Christmas. I want to enjoy his vacation!Comments:Add a comment:
